FAQ
Questions, answered straight.
What is Ashgate?
Ashgate is a mobile-first, browser-based mafia RPG. You start as a nobody, commit crimes, rank up, join a family, fight rivals, and compete across seasonal rounds — no download required.
Is Ashgate a text-based mafia game?
Yes. Ashgate is text-and-dashboard driven, not a 3D game. It's built on the same persistent, player-driven foundation as classic text-based mafia browser games, with a modern mobile interface.
Is Ashgate free to play?
Yes. There's no cost to play. Optional support for the game may be introduced later, but it will never buy a combat advantage — see our answer on pay-to-win below.
Do I need to download anything?
No. Ashgate runs entirely in your browser, desktop or mobile.
Can I play on mobile?
Yes — Ashgate is designed mobile-first. It works in any modern mobile browser.
What is Season Zero?
Season Zero is Ashgate's closed beta — a real, canon chapter used to test crimes, families, the economy, and combat balance with early players before a full public launch. Balance and rules may still change.
How do beta invitations work?
Join the waitlist with your email. Invitations go out in staged waves; joining the list does not guarantee immediate access. When you're invited, you'll get an emailed invite link to complete registration.
Will beta progress reset?
It may. Season Zero exists to test and balance core systems, and gameplay data may be wiped or partially reset before Season One if balancing requires it. Founder/beta recognition is permanent regardless.
What are families?
Families are player-founded or player-joined crews that share income, offer protection, and let you take on organised crime and rivalries as a group instead of alone.
Is Ashgate pay to win?
No. Rank, cash, and combat outcomes are never for sale. The backend is the sole source of truth for money, XP, rank, cooldowns, and combat — there's no client-side or paid shortcut around any of it.
Is there real-money gambling?
No. Ashgate has in-fiction casino games using in-game currency only. There's no real-money gambling and no cash-out — in-game currency has no real-world value.
What age is Ashgate intended for?
Ashgate is intended for players 16 and up, with 18+ recommended given its crime themes.
How are players moderated?
Ashgate has admin moderation tools, anti-cheat detection, and player reporting across chat and forums, plus a support ticket system for issues and appeals.
How does the Ashgate Ledger work?
The Ledger is a planned in-world newspaper that will report real game events — never invented ones — with admin editorial review before anything publishes. It isn't live yet.
Are game outcomes generated by AI?
No. The database decides every game outcome — rewards, ranks, and combat results are never AI-generated. Where AI is used at all (like drafting future newspaper copy), it only adds flavour over real data, always with human review before publishing.
How can I report a bug?
Use in-game Support Tickets once you have an account, or email support@playashgate.com.
