The world
A city built on shipping, steel, politics, and blood.
Ashgate grew rich moving cargo nobody asked questions about. For decades it ran on a quiet arrangement — then the man holding it together disappeared.
The old family, and the disappearance
For decades, one family held the docks, the foundries, the courts, and the newspapers. Crime never stopped — it was simply organised, taxed, and kept off the front page. That order held because of one man at the top. When he vanished — no body, no funeral, no confirmed successor — it stopped holding. His lieutenants stopped trusting each other. Old agreements lapsed. The docks slowed, the courts hesitated, the police lost their handler.
He's gone, not confirmed dead. Some say he's watching. Both are bad news for whoever gets too comfortable.
The power vacuum is the premise
With no one at the top, reputation is currency. A name spoken twice in a day is a name people start to move against, or move toward. Nothing is settled — territory, families, and rankings are all provisional, which is exactly why seasons exist: the vacuum is never permanently filled. Every crime builds a name, every family builds a power bloc, and every season is a fresh fight over the same empty seat.
You start as a nobody in this city — not a chosen one, not a returning hero. Every name that ends up mattering in Ashgate started exactly where you're starting.
One map, ten districts
No generic streets. Every job, rivalry, and rumour is tied to a real corner of the city, and every corner has its own character.
Old Docks
Cranes, salt, cargo nobody logs. The old family's real power was rooted here.
Iron Quarter
Foundries and steel, working muscle, soot and noise.
South Market
Crowds, stalls, cash changing hands. Loud and always moving.
Kings Yard
Old money and old power. Historic seat of the old family. Quiet, watched.
The Narrows
Tight alleys and cheap rooms. Where nobodies start and bodies get lost.
Lockside
Canals and lock gates, slow water, slower witnesses.
Greybridge
The crossings. Tolls, checkpoints, who-owes-who.
East Hollow
Half-empty residential streets, hollowed out and quiet.
Crown Market
The upscale market. Crown Trust bank sits here. Money with a clean shirt.
Blackwater Yard
Grim edge of the city. Blackwater Holding, the jail, is here.
