About Ashgate

A modern revival of the classic mafia browser game.

Ashgate takes the persistent, player-driven RPGs that defined an earlier era of browser gaming and rebuilds them for a mobile screen, with a real economy, real consequences, and a city that keeps moving whether you're logged in or not.

Why we're building this

Text-based mafia browser games had a specific kind of pull: no downloads, no long sessions required, just a persistent world you checked in on between classes or shifts, where the other names on the leaderboard were real people making real decisions about you. That genre mostly went quiet. Ashgate is our attempt to bring it back properly — same bones, modern interface, built mobile-first instead of bolted onto one afterward.

Ashgate is text-led, not 3D, and not an idle clicker. Every crime, fight, and family decision is something you choose and commit to. The backend is the only source of truth for money, rank, cooldowns, and combat — the frontend just shows you what's true. That's a deliberate choice: a persistent RPG only works if players can trust the numbers.

What we're not building

Ashgate is not pay-to-win. There is no real-money gambling and no cash-out — in-game currency has no real-world value. Combat and progression are not for sale. Where optional support for the game exists in the future, it will never buy a combat advantage.

We're also not chasing a finished game on day one. Season Zero exists specifically to test crimes, families, the economy, and combat balance with real players before a full public launch — see how seasons work for what that means in practice.
